Insurance demand heeded
Even though the BMC has rejected the proposal to provide life insurance two times, city corporators are adamant to have this cover at the cost of the taxpayers. Heeding their demands, the civic law committee on Wednesday sent back the proposal to provide life insurance to corporators for reconsideration.
Law committee chairman Makarand Narvekar said, “We have referred the insurance proposal asking the administration to table it again. There is a need to provide such insurance cover to corporators keeping in mind the problems they face during their works.” The BMC had earlier turned down corporators’ demand to provide them a life insurance cover, way back in 2007. The proposal was tabled by the former BJP corporator Amita Shah, who insisted on the need for such insurance cover for corporators.
