‘IPL has become India’s sex symbol’

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made a scathing attack on the ongoing spot fixing controversy of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday. Party’s national executive member Prashant Bhushan has alleged that the IPL has become the sex symbol of the country.
Addressing the party’s first statewide convention at Vanita Samaj Hall at Dadar, Mr Bhushan said, “IPL has changed the face of cricket and is now seen as the sex symbol of the country. Since it involves huge money, political leaders from all parties have directly or indirectly linked themselves to the IPL.”
The AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal has started its preparation to contest the coming elections. The party has expressed its intention to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections during the convention. Mr Bhushan also informed the media about the party’s future strategies.
He said, “Our party will contest the coming elections on issues like corruption, forcible acquisition of land, load shedding, right to recall and drought,” adding, “The problems are somehow same across the country, therefore the AAP will start contesting elections from Delhi and then decide upon contesting from different states.”
Anjali Damania, party member from Maharashtra, said, “It is time for us to come together to oust the corruption in the political system as well as in the bureaucracy.” Another member Preeti Sharma Menon said that the formation of district-wise committees of the party was in progress. “So far, including Nagpur, Aurangabad and Nashik, among others, formation of 28 district committees has been completed. While, Akola, Gadchiroli, Jalgaon, Nanded, Latur, Sindhudurg and Osmanabad district committees are yet to be formed.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
