Karate tutor knifes yoga instructor
Two people, including a yoga instructor, were stabbed by a karate tutor in a gymnasium near Capitol Cinema, at CST on Tuesday morning.
The Azad Maidan police has launched a manhunt to nab the accused, who fled the scene after injuring the two seriously. Both the injured are admitted to GT Hospital, where the condition of the yoga tutor is said to be critical. The reason for the incident is not yet known, said the police. The injured people have been identified as Bijendra Kumar Sharma (42) and Rajesh Kumar Kataria (32). Sharma works as a yoga instructor at the National Health League Gymnasium near Capitol Cinema, CST. Kataria is a security guard in the same gym. Both reside in the gym.
The accused, who has been identified as Mohammed Shabbir Hussain (23), is originally from Kolkata.
According to the police, on Tuesday, at around 5 am, Hussain stabbed Sharma in his stomach with a knife over an unknown issue in the gym. After hearing Sharma’s screams, Kataria rushed to rescue him, but Hussain attacked him too. He then fled from the spot.
“At around 5.20 am, the control room received a call from Kataria and we were informed that a stabbing incident had occurred in a gym nearby Capitol Cinema. We rushed to the spot, and found two injured people lying in pool of blood. Both of them were rushed to GT Hospital and Sharma was operated in the ICU as he sustained severe injuries to his stomach,” said police inspector Kantilal Kothambire, Azad Maidan police.
“Hussain used to work in the same gym, but was sacked from the job around six months ago. He had gone to Kolkata and returned to Mumbai, two days ago and was living with the two victims in the gym, when the incident took place,” said an officer, privy to the investigation.
