Kin ostracised, Girl jumps before metro

A 24-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the Dilshad Garden Metro Station on Tuesday afternoon.
A senior police official said the deceased was identified as Neetu, alias Meenakshi, a native of Mirjapur in UP. The police said that they have not recovered any suicide note from the spot.
“We got to know that she was depressed after her younger brother had a love marriage and her family was expelled from the society by her villagers. The deceased, with her two brothers, Mayur and Vishal, was staying in Mayur Vihar area. The family was receiving threats from the villagers that they would kill them,” said the police official.
The official further said Neetu’s younger brother Mayur eloped with a girl of the same caste. The family members of the girl were not happy with the marriage and they assaulted the whole family members. Later on, a panchayat was organised and they decided that Mayur and his family should be expelled.
