Kolkata developer cheated of `16.2cr
The Kasturba Marg police are on the lookout for a finance broker from Mumbai who cheated a Kolkata-based property developer of `16.20 crore by promising two plots for construction in Mumbai.
The amount was paid to the accused finance broker Sanjay Ramavtar Singh over a period of three years and the FIR was registered on March 7 after he failed to get the plot and started ignoring phone calls.
Singh is a member of the Shree Riddhi Siddhi Cooperative Housing Society and had been given the power of attorney. The complainant Tarun Kumar Jain is the general manager of Jain Group of Companies based in Kolkata.
Mr Jain and Singh had made a deal in 2010 where they had planned the development of two projects on plots in Goregaon (east) and Thane. While the plot at Thane is worth `25 crore, the one in Aarey colony, Goregaon (east) is worth `15.51 crore.
As per the Memorandum of Understanding, Singh had promised to get the two plots and Jain, in return, had proposed to give him 35 per cent of the developed property.
“Singh took `16.20 crore in installments, but could not get the promised plots. He further refused to return the money and stopped receiving the complainant’s phone calls,” said senior police inspector, Bharat Worlikar of the Kasturba Marg police station.
The police have registered a case of forgery under Sections 465, 467, 468, 470, 471 and cheating under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, while there is a manhunt underway to nab Singh.

MLA moves HC against toll collection
Mumbai, March 11: An MNS legislator has filed a public interest litigation in the Bombay high court against the collection of toll on the old Mumbai-Pune highway (NH4) as well as the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
Petitioner Nitin Sardesai is the MLA from Dadar. The petition seeks that the court restrain the government, Mhaiskar Infrastructure and Ideal Road Builders, who had entered into a public-private partnership to construct and expand the roads, from collecting toll. “The manner in which toll is being imposed upon the public travelling on the said highways is most arbitrary, unreasonable, unfair and unconstitutional. Toll is being sought for facilities which have not been completed,” the petition states. It adds that toll should not be collected till the completion of four-lane expansion of the old highway, and provision of facilities on the Expressway. The PIL is likely to come up for hearing next week.
