Kunte visits Altaf Mansion, BMC to demolish building
Following instructions from municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte, the civic officials as well as the structural engineer carried out the inspection of the Altaf Mansion building at Mahim on Thursday.
The BMC will also scrutinise the dossier submitted by building resident Rizwan Merchant, and the complaints received earlier regarding the building.
Meanwhile, the demolition of the remaining portion of Altaf Mansion will also be carried out on Friday, said civic officials. “The building will be razed by using the combo crusher machine. It will take nearly eight hours to complete the demolition,” said additional municipal commissioner M.M. Adtani.
Structural engineer Shashank Mehendale and the civic officials of the planning, development and building proposal department carried out the inspection of the remaining portion of Altaf Mansion. “We have also sent samples of the building pillars for inspection,” said Mr Adtani.
Mr Merchant, who is also a prominent lawyer, had called on Mr Kunte on Wednesday, and demanded strict action against people responsible for the building collapse.
The building had collapsed on June 10, killing 10 and injuring six people.
