Kurla Junction flyover to open July end
After a seven-year wait, Mumbaikars will finally be able to use the Kurla Junction Flyover. The flyover, which is part of the Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR), will be open to public by the end of this month.
With the opening of this flyover, there will be some relief in store for people travelling between Kalina and Vakola to Kurla railway station.
Until now, people have been travelling below the flyover, and face chock-o-block traffic during peak hours.
Further, according to RTI activist Anil Galgali, people have been using the flyover as their makeshift property. “On the Kapadia Nagar end of the flyover, garages have a field day; they use the flyover as their own property and repair vehicles and dump motor parts on it,” Mr Galgali said.
In a letter to Mr Galgali dated July 17, an MMRDA official has mentioned that the flyover will be inaugurated in the next five to seven days.
The flyover was to be ready years ago, but it took the MMRDA and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation seven long years to construct it. This particular flyover is part of the SCLR project, which is still far from completion. The latest deadline for the SCLR project is March 2013.
The 563 metre-long and 17.2 metre-wide flyover will have two lan-es on either side. The flyover, which bypasses LBS Road, will start from Halav Bridge and end at CST Road.
Last year, the MMRDA had inaugurated Lalbaug flyover during the monsoons only to attract criticism due to potholes.
