Labourer murdered at building site
A young labourer’s body was found at an under-construction building with his head smashed on the building’s concrete corridor floor at Andheri (east) on Monday morning.
The MIDC police said the body of Jeetendra Shah (27) was found lying on the ground floor corridor of the Option Prime commercial building, near Vijaynagar Bridge in MIDC area.
According to the investigating official, assistant inspector Anil Mali, the five-storeyed building, where Shah’s body was found is undergoing construction. Shah, who hails from Bihar, had been doing the work of setting tiles at the site. He used to sleep at the site along with a few other labourers.
The murder came to light when Kalpesh Kadam, a liftman of the building reported to duty at around 11 am on Monday. Shocked to see Shah lying in a pool of blood, he informed the supervisor of the site, who alerted the police control room.
During panchnama, the police found severe head injuries. “Shah’s head was first smashed on the concrete corridor floor and then a heavy box containing tiles was thrown on his neck to ensure that he died,” said an investigating official. There are no other injury marks on Shah’s body.

MTDC gets response to enter konkan
ATEEQ SHAIKH
Mumbai, Feb. 19
After a failed attempt, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation finally gets response to operate its fleet of five Volvo buses in Konkan. Since November, the MTDC floated the expression of interest (EoI) thrice to attract private players to operate the luxury buses to Konkan from Mumbai and Pune. “We have received a response this time and are hopeful of starting the services catering to tourists visiting the Konkan belt soon,” said Kishori Gadre, general manager, MTDC.“Monday was the last day to submit bids, and we are yet to open them and analyse the proposals submitted to us,” added another MTDC official.
In the past, the MTDC’s EoI had a clause of minimum payment of `40 lakh per annum to MTDC by the private player to manage the fleet. Due to this clause, people were unwilling to come forward. In the last round of call of EoI, the MTDC removed the mandatory payment of `40 lakh. Instead, the latest clause was asking interest parties to come up with their quote and the company submitting the proposal with the highest bid would bag the contract.
