Lady cop lodges complaint over obscene calls

The Azad Maidan police is on the lookout for a man who allegedly harassed a lady police constable by making obscene phone calls to her. The accused would use vulgar language with the victim and immediately switch off his cellphone to avoid being tracked down.
Initial probe revealed that the address on which the SIM card of the accused was registered, was a fake one. The police is now trying to locate him.
According to the police, a lady police constable, who stays in the police colony located in the jurisdiction of the Azad Maidan police station, approached the police on July 29 and complained that an unidentified man had been harassing her by making obscene calls for the past one week.
Her complaint states that initially she did not pay heed to the calls, but as he began calling her regularly, she decided to approach the police.
“We have registered the offence under Section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating the case,” said Narendra Singh, senior inspector of the Azad Maidan police station.
“The accused has been making the obscene phone calls only from one number, which is used for this purpose alone. He would immediately switch off the phone after every call to the victim,” said another officer. He further said, “When we checked the address on which the number was registered, it was found to be fake.”
Investigators believe that the accused is hiding somewhere in Chembur because everytime he made a call, his phone call tower location was traced to Chembur.
A few days ago, the Malabar Hill police had arrested a hotel management graduate from Jaipur who allegedly harassed many women across states. Apart from having made obscene calls to an elderly woman in Malabar Hill, he would also make obscene calls on random numbers.
