Landslide kills ten in Nandurbar
Ten persons were killed and two injured in a landslide and flash floods in Taloda and Dhadgaon tehsils of Nandurbar district early on Wednesday morning. The police said that a landslide occurred at 3 am in Waleri village destroying a house.
The deceased were working on a site nearby and were living on this house on the hillside.
They were from Athamba village in Dhadgaon taluka of Nandurbar and had come to work in Waleri. The labourers were sleeping in the house when the disaster struck.
The complaint was filed by Sanya Kagda Walvi (22), who told the police about the landslide. The police rushed with rescue personnel and had to dig the debris with spades to remove the bodies. The post-mortem was conducted on the spot as it was difficult to shift the bodies due to the rains.
The names of deceased are Ramilabai Nimji Walvi (22), Sharmila Dama Walvi (9), Shewabai Kunya Walvi (20), Indubai Samadhan Wasave (45), Mukesh Tarma Wasave (14), Vikram Dama Walvi (2), Dama Kagadia Walvi (25) and Baya Nimji Walvi (16 months). On Tuesday, two girls were washed away in flash floods in Dhadgaon taluka. Incidentally, the girls too were from Athamba village. Their names were Nashya Mangdya Wasave (15) and Naiva Kaliya Wasave (14). Both were cousins.
Heavy rains have lashed Nandurbar district near the Satpura range. The Narmada and Tapi river areas are especially facing the worst of monsoon fury. Both the rivers are heavily flooded and alerts have been issued up to Gujarat where the rivers drain. Hundreds of houses have been reported damaged and water seeped into many homes in Karli, Ranale, Vankute, Mandal, Umede, Balwand, Dhandane and other villages in Nandurbar taluka since Monday.
