Leopard trapped at Aarey Colony
A leopard was trapped by forest officials at Adarsh Nagar inside Aarey Milk Colony on Thursday. Incidentally, the animal was caught at the same spot, where a leopard had killed a 12-year-old-boy a few days ago.
However, officials are yet to ascertain if the trapped leopard is the same that had killed the boy.
“We laid a trap at the same location. This evening, we got information that the animal walked into the cage,” confirmed sources with the forest department.
This is the third incident this year, wherein, a leopard has been trapped. The earlier two were at Khambhyacha Pada on Saturday morning and Maroshi Pada on January 14.
Soon after the leopard was trapped, officials from the forest department took the animal to its rescue centre inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park, where authorities and vets will examine it for any kind of injury.
Once comprehensively checked, a chip will be attached to the leopard. If the same leopard is encountered by the officials in the future, this chip will help authorities to identify it.
In this year, till date, there have been three instances of leopard attacks and all of them have been inside the Aarey Milk Colony.
In the first two cases, the victims managed to escape with injuries, but on Saturday, 12-year-old Saurav Thakur Yadav was dragged by the animal into the forests.
