Luxury bus kills 2 on highway
A speeding luxury bus rammed into a bike killing two youngsters travelling on it on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway in Kasa village of Thane (rural) in the early hours of Sunday, the police said.
The driver managed to escape from the spot and 18 hours later surrendered before the Kasa police. The Kasa police is now unable to scientifically prove that the accused was driving under the influence of alcohol, as the blood samples have to be taken within two hours and the urine samples within eight hours of a person consuming alcohol.
The accident took place at around12.15 am at the Charoti Naka on National Highway-8 (Mumbai-Ahmedabad). The RK Bishnoi Travels bus, carrying 30-odd passengers, was moving towards Ahme-dabad from Mumbai and after knocking down the bike, it ran over the duo killing them.
The two deceased have been identified as Amol Vilas Bhandgar (20), a resident of Mahalaxmi and Balaji Kaunder (22), a resident of Valvipada in Kasa. The police took them to Kasa Hospital where they were declared dead on admission. Both were auto rickshaw drivers.
The accused driver, Krishna Ram Bishnoi (29) escaped from the spot and surrendered before the police at around 6 pm on Sunday. Bishnoi has been booked under Section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of the IPC and under the Motor Vehicle Act Section 134 A and B (running from the spot) and will be produced in a magistrate’s court on Monday.
“The police control room has to take quick action and must try and arrest the accused before he absconds,” said IPS-turned-social activist, Y.P. Singh.
