A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and molesting a 10-year-old girl in Govandi area on Sunday. Commuters on a local train spotted the accused who was taking the girl to CST, two hours after the
abduction. They caught hold of him and handed him over to the Dadar GRP, which then handed over the accused and the victim to the Shivaji Nagar police.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sayyed Ashraf Sayyed Ashfaq Khan, who is a tailor by profession and stays in the slums of F-line, Baiganwadi.
According to the Shivaji Nagar police, on Sunday evening at around 4.30pm, Rehana (name changed), who lives with her mother and a father who is a tailor, was playing outside her home when Khan approached her and took her along with him on the pretext of taking her on a ride to the city. handed him over to the GRP officials at Currey Road station, who then took him and the girl to the Dadar GRP police station where he confessed that he had kidnapped the girl.”
“The Dadar GRP officials informed the girl’s
parents about the incident, and after registering a Zero FIR, transferred the case and the accused to us,” said Radheshyam Agrawal, senior PI, Shivaji Nagar police station. He added, “The girl was reunited with the family after a medical examination, and Khan was arrested for molestation and kidnap, under relevant sections of the IPC.
