Man arrested for attacking Andheri RTO inspector
A 39-year-old man working with a PUC centre was arrested early on Sunday morning for allegedly assaulting a Regional Transport Office (RTO) inspector, who seized his vehicles.
According to the Amboli police, the incident took place at around 3 am, when the accused, Anand Mishra, got into a fight with the victim Sunil Kopatkar (34) outside the Andheri RTO.
Investigating official, assistant inspector Kishore Patil said, “Mr Kopatkar and his subordinates were cracking down on heavy vehicles carrying load above the permissible limit. Often, fatal accidents take place due to overloading. The officials had seized three heavy vehicles owned by Mishra.
“Soon after the seizure, Mishra showed up at the Andheri RTO and got into a heated argument with Mr Kopatkar. Mishra then hurled abuses at the RTO inspector and finally slapped him,” Mr Patil added.
One of the officials, who saw the ruckus, alerted the police, following which Mishra was nabbed and brought to the police station. Mishra is a resident of Mira Road.
He has been booked under Sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from duty), 352 (punishment for assault or criminal force), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC. He was produced in a holiday court on Sunday and has been remanded to police custody.
