Man batters daughter, held
In a repeat of the 2012 baby-battering cases of Falak in Delhi and Ahuti Joshi in Mumbai, a 13-month-old girl was allegedly brutally beaten up by her father who was joined by some of his women relatives in the torture at their residence, the police said on Wednesday.
Baby Jiya, with both her legs and a hand fractured, had been admitted to a private hospital in Theragon near Pune last week, the police said. They added that the parents told
the hospital authorities that the girl sustained injuries after she fell from her bed at their residence in Pimpri-Chinchwad town.
The girl’s father, Dastagir Hukkeri (28) was arrested on December 31 for allegedly thrashing his daughter as he was enraged over the birth of a third baby girl, the police said. Dastagir had two daughters from his previous marriage and had remarried, apparently to have a son. However, his second wife, too, gave birth to a girl child.
According to the police, the accused allegedly beat up Jiya with a rolling pin at his residence, police said, adding his wife kept mum as he had threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the torture. However, she finally approached the police on December 31 and lodged a complaint against Dastagir and three of his women relatives, following which the police arrested them.

Father kidnaps stepdaughter, cops on lookout
AGE CORRESPONDENT
Mumbai, Jan. 2
The Cuffe Parade police launched a manhunt for a man who reportedly kidnapped his 15-year-old stepdaughter on the night of December 31. The girl’s mother suspects that the man may have lured her by promising to marry her.
Complainant Vaishali Shinde (35) told the police that she married Ravindra Navale (28) in Nashik a year ago. After marrying Navale, she and her daughters lived with him.
“A few days ago, Ms Shinde screamed at her daughter Shweta over a petty issue. On the eve of December 31, at around 6 pm, Shweta told her mother that she is going out. After she did not return, her mother informed the police,” said an official.
He added that a relative of Ms Shinde informed her that Shweta was last seen with Navale. Senior inspe-ctor of police, Janardan Kharat, said, “We have registered a case and are now trying to trace them.”
