Man catches father’s killer

A Mira Road resident kept his wits about him, even after seeing his father getting killed, and overpowered the murderer and handed him over to the police.
According to the Mira Road police, on Thursday, Hardik Shah (32), a resident of Shanti Nagar in Mira Road, was talking with his wife in the bedroom of his house while his father Rajneesh (52) was in a meeting with his business associate Ashish Jaiswal in the living room.
At around 6 pm, Hardik heard the sound of a scuffle and then, heard his faher screaming. He rushed out and to his shock, saw Rajneesh lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Jaiswal was standing over him with a dagger in his hand. On seeing Hardik emerge from the bedroom, he turned and tried to flee. However, Hardik pounced on Jaiswal and shouted out to his wife to call the police.
“Hardik managed to overpower Jaiswal, sustaining some minor injuries in the process. Meanwhile, we diverted our nearest mobile unit to the spot and also dispatched a backup team from the police station. Jaiswal was then taken into custody,” said an officer with the Mira Road police station.
Mr Nitin Sambatwad, deputy superintendent of police, Mira-Bhayander division, said that Jaiswal and Rajneesh had been involved in a feud over money. “Rajneesh provides junior artistes opportunities in the film industry, and Jaiswal helps him with procuring and supplying the talent. Jaiswal had enlisted some people for a movie shoot a few days back, and Rajneesh had owed him Rs 5,000 for it. But, Rajneesh kept delaying the payment. On Thursday, Jaiswal demanded the money from Rajneesh, and the latter refused. So Jaiswal attacked him,” said Mr Sambatwad.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
