Man drowns at dadar chowpatty
A 25-year-old man drowned at the Dadar Chowpatty on Friday afternoon at around 4 pm.
According to the fire officials, the sea was very choppy due to the incessant rains when the incident happened. The man tried to venture into the sea and was washed away by the tide. The man, who has not been identified, entered the sea from Kakasaheb Dandekar Chowk, a narrow unmanned entrance near the Mayor’s
Bungalow. The patch of sea there is very rocky and access to the beach is restricted from there.
After locals alerted the fire brigade about drowning, a search operation began and fire officials fished out the man after two hours. He was rushed to KEM Hospital, but was declared brought dead.
According to the civic officials, the Dadar Chowpatty is manned by three lifeguards. However, they were not stationed at the site from where the man entered, as it is a prohibited area.
“People shouldn’t be entering the beach from that side as it very rocky and the water suddenly becomes deep,” said a fire brigade official.
