Man held for conning, molesting women
The Agripada police on Monday arrested an alleged molester, who would promise monetary help in the name of Lalbaugcha Raja Ganeshotsav Trust to girls and women in need of money, and would then molest them. The police is looking for his partner who would help him in locate prospective targets.
The arrested accused has been identified as Umar Akbar Shaikh alias Khargosh (27), a resident of Golibar naka, Santa Cruz. He was arrested for allegedly cheating and molesting a 23-year-old girl Supriya (name changed), a third year college student, confirmed assistant commissioner of police (Agripada division) Jayant Sarmokkadam.
“In December last year when Supriya’s uncle was admitted to the Nair Hospital, she received a phone call on the hospital’s landline. The caller introduced himself as Rajesh and told her that he could help her financially and gave her Shaikh’s number. When Supriya contacted Shaikh, he told her that he was from the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganeshotsav Trust and could give her money to use for her uncle’s treatment,” said sub-inspector S. Kumbhar of Agripada police station.
“Shaikh promised to give her `30,000 and asked her to meet him on December 21, 2012 in the Saat Rastaa area. In her complaint, Supriya told us that Shaikh touched her inappropriately and made lewd comments, while talking to her. He also took Supriya’s cellphone and escaped,” Mr Kumbhar added.
Supriya then lodged an FIR with the Agripada police and after almost two months of thorough investigation, arrested Shaikh from Santa Cruz.
