Man held for killing mother
The Ghatkopar police arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly murdering his mother and grievously injuring his brother when the three were arguing over a domestic issue. The police is waiting for the accused’s brother to recuperate when they will record a detailed statement to get more clarity on the incident.
The accused, Rounak Gogari (27), lived with his brother Mayur (26) and mother Chetana (60) in Chintamani Apartments at Ghatkopar (west). “The family was opposed to Rounak’s proposal of selling a licence issued to them by a labour authority to someone else. They were having an argument over the issue at around 5.30 pm when it escalated and subsequently turned violent. Rounak attacked his brother and
strangulated Chetana with a sari, thereby killing her on the spot,” said PI Rajkumar Kothimire of the Ghatkopar police station.
The murder came to light when neighbours rushed to the Gogari residence after hearing the violent argument. The police was immediately informed when Rounak was held and Mayur was sent to Rajawadi Hospital where he is currently recuperating.
Rounak, who was arrested for assault and murder, will be produced in court on Tuesday.
“We are waiting for Mayur to recover since he is the prime witness in the case will be able to describe exactly how the incident happened,” said Mr Kothimire.
