Man lands in cop net after 11 years
The Mumbai crime branch has nabbed a murder case accused who had been evading arrest for the past 11 years. The accused had gone into hiding for more than a decade, married a girl from another faith, and thus, changed his name and religion, said the police.
The arrested accused has been identified as Ravi Janardan Aalve alias Parvez Taz Mohammed Shaikh, 60. Aalve was arrested in the year 1984 for his alleged involvement in the murder of Vadhu Solanki, father of Purushottam Solanki, then minister in the Gujarat government. The murder was planned by Aalve’s friend Shahnavaz Shaikh whose brother was reportedly murdered by the Solankis. To avenge his brother’s killing, Shahnavaz assembled three men for the operation including Aalve. All the accused, including Aalve were arrested then. He had attended court proceedings till the year 2002, but later went into hiding.
“After he stopped attending court hearings, Aalve cut off communication with his relatives, friends and shifted his residence from Andheri’s Mogarapada to Santa Cruz. Aalve even married a Muslim girl and converted to Islam. He changed his physical appearance and started working as an auto-rickshaw driver,” said a crime branch officer.
Recently, police officials from the Dormant File (DF) squad that hunts for absconders, received a tip-off on Aalve. A team of policemen, comprising assistant police inspector Rauf Shaikh, head constables Suresh Ramraje, Kumbhar and Rahane on the instructions of DCP (detection 1) Ambadas Pote then went to Aalve’s residence posing as Aadhar card officers and took his photograph on the pretext of using it for the card. Later, they showed the picture to their informers who confirmed that the man who was claiming to be Parvez Shaikh is actually Aalve.
The police arrested him on Monday. He was produced in court that sent him to judicial custody for 10 days.
