A police constable, who was posted for the security of a Tada court judge, shot himself with his service pistol after killing his female friend at her house in Tardeo early on Wednesday morning.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the constable was in an illicit relationship with the woman, who was a widow. The cause of the incident is still not known.
The deceased have been identified as constable Sudhir Rane (40) and Sharvari Khan (48). Rane lived with his wife and two daughters at the Police Colony in Matunga, while Khan lived at the Rajeev Nagar Cooperative Housing Society in Tardeo. Her three married sons reside in the same building.
Rane was attached to the protection branch of the Mumbai police and was posted for the security of Special Tada court judge G.A. Sanap, who resides in Building-14, Government Colony, Tardeo.
During the night shifts, Rane would go to the rest room located in another building in the vicinity. “On Wednesday morning, at around 6 am, when Rane and his colleague, constable Yogesh Ghadigaokar, were about to leave from the rest room for duty, Rane shot a bullet to the right side of his head, killing himself instantly. Ghadigaonkar immediately informed the Tardeo police about the incident,” said police inspector Manohar Hindalekar.
He added, “Later, a man arrived at the station, claiming that his mother had been shot dead in the same area. The police rushed to the spot; the bullet used in the firing was from Rane’s service pistol. Both the bodies were sent to Nair Hospital for a post-mortem.”
Investigations have revealed that Rane was in a relationship with Khan. On Tuesday, he was seen entering Khan’s building by the latter’s elder son.
Vinayak Deshmukh, DCP, Zone 3 said, “We suspect something would have gone amiss between the two in the night; Rane must have shot himself after he shot Khan.”
Another officer said that Rane’s wife was aware of her husband’s affair and had even had a heated argument with Khan in Tardeo around two days ago.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
