Masala King charts success story in UAE
The success story of Maharashtrian entrepreneur Dhananjay Datar from Dubai, who is ranked 19th among the top 100 Indian businessmen in the UAE, has been drawing accolades from the international community in the Gulf.
Popularly known as “Masala King” in the Gulf, Mr Datar, who started out with a small kirana store back in 1984 in Dubai, today runs a huge empire with an annual turnover of `800 crore. Mr Datar is credited as the only Maharashtrian entrepreneur from India to manufacture food products in the UAE and other Gulf countries, using over 8,000 food items from different states of India.
Mr Datar said, “I started Al Adil Company as a concept to help Indians meet their day-to-day requirements. Apart from masalas, dals, dry fruits, namkeens, pickles etc., we also provide our Indian customers with special festival requirements.” The company started out with six superstores in the UAE in 2008.
“Today, we have 25 superstores, two flour mill factories, two spice factories across the UAE…We have an expansion plan to open 50 stores in GCC countries,” he said.
