Metro, mono to link with Railways
The MMRDA will construct link ways or rather foot overbridges to connect mono and Metro Rail stations with that of suburban train stations of Mumbai.
According to the plan, four monorail stations and two Metro stations will be connected to rail stations.
Work on one such foot overbridge has already started at Chembur. “The first bridge — 250 metres long and four metres wide — will come up at Chembur connecting the Chembur monorail station with Chembur (east) railway station,” Dilip Kawathkar, joint project director, public relations, MMRDA, said. Its estimated cost is `4.32 crore.
The remaining links with monorail stations will come up at Wadala monorail station to Wadala station, Currey Road monorail station to Currey Road station and Jacob Circle monorail station to Mahalaxmi station.
Meanwhile, for the Metro Rail, two existing skywalks will connect the Metro stations at Ghatkopar and Andheri with Ghatkopar and Andheri railway stations respectively.
Chembur residents have approached the MMRDA for an alternative, however, the officials claim that it is not possible at this juncture as the MMRDA is already racing to complete the monorail project.
