#MIvsRCB scores match point on Twitter
Even as the Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 14 runs on Sunday, the previous day’s match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore kept trending on the Internet, thanks to the controversy created by RCB captain Virat Kohli. Kohli found himself in the midst of a storm for decisions and comments he made during the match and on the IPL.
The crowd at Wankhede Stadium, where the match took place on Saturday night, jeered at Kohli calling him a “cheat” after he appealed for the dismissal of MI batsman Ambati Rayudu, who was ultimately declared out in a rather strange manner.
Jibes at Kohli at Wankhede ended with the match, but not on the Internet. On the microblogging website Twitter, one user posted, “After looking at rude behavior & anger of Virat Kohli; Cinthol has to stop telecasting its Deo Fragrance add; “My life is awesome” #MIvsRCB” (sic). Another user tweeted: “Probably reason behind Virat Kohli anger is Tamanna’s so many friendship request to other Cricketers who performed well #MIvsRCB Wankhede (sic).”
“...It feels a bit weird because at the end of the day you play for India and you don’t come here to be hated. Whoever wins or loses, in any of the games, you come to Bangalore, every captain is cheered, every Indian player is cheered,” Kohli has said.
However, there were also those who seemed disappointed in the way the Mumbai crowd behaved at Wankhede. One of them being Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah, who posted: “Mumbai crowd can’t be matched with knowledgeable Chennai crowd ! #IPL #MIvsRCB (sic).
Another tweet read, “Funny how Virat Kohli has no problem cussing Gambhir but when Wankhede crowd gave it back, cries about being an Indian player first.”
It was the dismissal of Rayudu which the crowd thought was unfair and vented out against Kohli who had vehemently appealed for it.
Rayudu seemed to have grounded his bat before it went in the air when he collided with bowler Vinay Kumar. It was at this time that a direct hit from Kohli hit the stumps. The visitors asked for the third umpire’s decision, which went in favour of RCB. This agitated the crowd and they booed Kohli calling him a “cheat”.
