MKCL: We are not to blame for online glitches
The Maharashtra Knowledge Commission Limited (MKCL), a semi-government organisation that has been entrusted with the task of conducing online admissions, as well as registration, for most education authorities is of the opinion that it is not responsible for student problems online.
Mr Vivek Sawant, managing director and CEO, said, “The problems pertaining to online admissions have not been addressed in a proper manner. Rather than understanding the root of the issues, people have simply chosen to blame the MKCL. Had they been due to some shortcoming on our part, we would not have so many international institutions seeking our services.”
MKCL has been handling online admissions for FYJC, the Directorate of Technical Education, and the Directorate for Vocational Education and Training, as well as online registration for the University of Mumbai, aside from various training programmes on behalf of these authorities.
“There has been no negative feedback from the programmes we have offered. On the contrary, the numbers we have achieved are seldom heard of by any Indian organisation in terms of recruitment, training and so on,” added Mr Sawant.

Man charred to death in chemical factory

Mumbai, July 18
A man was burnt to death, and his colleague suffered severe burns, after a chemical reactor’s motor caught fire in a chemicals factory, in Boisar, on Thursday.
According to the Boisar police, the fire occurred at around 1 am in Prachi Pharma Pvt. Ltd. Around seven labourers were working the unit at the time of the incident.
Police Sub-Inspector, V.R. Patil, said, “About 2,600 litres of methanol were poured into the reactor. It had a capacity of 3,000 litres, but it is possible that it was already partially filled.”
“The methanol began to overflow, falling onto the motor, which caught fire,” he added. The Boisar police has registered an FIR against the absconding manager, B.B. Choudhary.
