MMRDA to buy 15-20 buses for BKC
MMRDA’s trial runs for low floor buses, exclusively for people travelling to and fro Bandra-Kurla Complex are likely to be held during this weekend.
The MMRDA has plans to buy around 15 – 20 low floor buses to improve connectivity of the business district with three railway stations.
“Currently rounds of discussions are on with the BEST to start bus services for Bandra-Kurla Complex. On our request, the BEST has already started operating additional bus services with their fleet of buses,” said Shankar Deshpande, joint project director, MMRDA.
The MMRDA intends to procure anywhere between 15 to 20 buses.
“We are working towards holding a trial run this Saturday within the Bandra-Kurla Complex, as well as the routes we want to ply the buses on,” added Mr Deshpande.
There are plans to have a dedicated bus service to connect the business district with Bandra,
Kurla and Sion railway stations. “Low floor buses too come in different sizes, we will have to decide on the size,” said Mr Deshpande. Each of such buses costs anywhere between `30 to 40 lakh.
