MNS reinvents dahi handi in thane
The Maharashtra Navnirman cable Sena, as part of their social campaign, collected food, clothes and medicines from local traders and residents of Thane by organising a Dahi Handi. On September 3, they gave the materials collected to poor families from small villages like Shirsonyacha Pada in Mokhada taluka of Thane rural.
The children from these poor families were in the news recently for being malnourished. They were given medicines after being checked by Dr Balasaheb Gandhi.
The Sena members collected about 1, 500 kg of food and edicines. Every family received 15 kg of rice and 5 kg of toor dal.
The initiative was headed by the Sena’s vice-president Rahul Shelar.
He said that such initiatives will be conducted every year.

Trustees booked
Nagpur: A case has been registered against seven trustees of the Sai Mandir here for allegedly misappropriating the temple’s gold, silver and cash to the tune of `21.30 lakh. Following a local court’s direction, the police registered the offences against the trustees for misappropriating 500 grams gold, 22 kg silver and `30,000 cash, donated to the temple from April 27, 2009 till date. They have been charged under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), police said. — PTI
