Mom, child dead after dumper rams into bike
A six-year-old boy and his 35-year-old mother were killed after a speeding dumper rammed into their bike on the Western Express Highway (WEH) in Kandivali (east) on Sunday evening. The kid’s father, however, who was riding the bike, survived the accident.
Samta Nagar police said that the accident took place at around 5.30 pm on Sunday on the WEH in front of Dattani Park in Thakur village.
“The driver of the dumper was speeding and driving rashly. He rammed into their bike from behind causing the three to fall off. They were rushed to Bhagwati Hospital, but were declared dead on admission,” said senior police inspector, Nanasaheb Kamble from the Samta Nagar police station.
Vaibhav Vora (35), who survived the accident, was travelling on his Bajaj Discover bike with his son Manav and his wife Hetal.
The family, according to their neighbours, was returning from a satsang (religious meet) in Malad (east). They lived in a building in Daulat Nagar area of Borivali (east) and attended the satsang every Sunday.
Mr Vora, who runs an optical shop near the Borivali railway station, is in a state of shock.
“We have arrested the driver of the dumper Subhash Gautam (30), under Section 304 A (causing death due to rash and negligent driving) of the IPC. We took his blood samples, which state that he was not driving under the influence of alcohol. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody,” added Mr Kamble.
