More than 7 lakh register for NET
On the last date for registration for the National Eligibility Test, a new record was set as more than 7.7 lakh aspirants from across the country registered for the exam that is to be held in December 2012. According to officials the number has swelled due to the new format of the examination and has bypassed the previous registration by nearly 1.5 lakh aspirants. Registrations from Mumbai, however, saw only a marginal increase of 1,400 aspirants.
According to Dr D. Harichandan, NET/SET coordinator, Mumbai the number of NET aspirants has been steadily rising as the new
format is less cumbersome and the pass percentage has also seen an increase.
“With the exam becoming more subject specific, aspirants are of the opinion that they have better chances as they have to attempt questions only from the subject of their choice. Apart from that with NET/SET qualification being stringently implemented by universities across the country, the aspirants want to take advantage of the easy format,” said Dr Harichandan.
He added that while the number of registrations was a record, aspirants appearing for the December exams would also be permitted to take home the question papers, which was not the case previously.
