More public toilets for women soon?
The state government will soon come up with a proposal to construct public toilets for women on highways. It will also approach the Bombay high court seeking special permission to construct toilets under flyovers.
It has also decided to make construction of public toilets for women at petrol pumps, toll nakas, bus stand, government and semi-government offices mandatory.
The issue was discussed and these decisions taken at a meeting convened by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday in Mantralaya.
The BMC recently expressed his inability to construct more toilets on arterial roads due to unavailability of space. “Due to this, we have decided to approach the high court seeking
permission for constructing toilets under
flyovers,” said an officer on condition of anonymity. HC has banned any kind of construction activities under flyovers owing to security reasons.
“The petrol pumps and toll plazas coming up in future will have to ensure public toilets seeking an NOC,” Mr Pawar said.
