Mother jumps off building with baby

In the fourth such case in the northern suburbs of Mumbai this year, a housewife from Kandivali jumped off the 18th floor of an under construction building along with her two-year-old daughter on Monday afternoon.
According to the Kandivali police, the deceased have been identified as Kritika Patel (28) and her two-year-old daughter Jaini. The police had received a call at around 2.30 pm from security guards at the under construction Roop Nagar society on the SV Road in Kandivali. “The Patels used to stay in a building at the same spot, which was razed for redevelopment. They then shifted to the KK Building in the Shankar Lane in Kandivali till redevelopment was complete, and were slated to get the 18th floor flat from where Kritika jumped,” said Mahesh Patil, deputy commissioner of police, Zone XI.
A search of Jaini’s backpack revealed the suicide note written in Gujarati, in which Kritika said that she was taking the extreme step as she was unable to keep her family happy, he said. “Kritika added that her husband and in-laws should not be held responsible for her actions,” added Mr Patil.
Kritika’s husband Kaushal works for a construction company in Kandivali. He was seen standing near the gate, crying inconsolably and saying over and over that he could not imagine why his wife would want to take such an extreme step.

COPS YET TO IDENTIFY 2-YR-OLD VICTIM
PRATIK SALUNKE
MUMBAI, OCT. 22

Mystery continues to prevail over the death of a two-year-old girl who was allegedly thrown out of a running local train and was found dead in the bushes in the adjoining tracks between Kanjurmarg and Bhandup stations on Sunday.
The girl’s body was found at the left side of the Down slow track. “We suspect that the girl might have been thrown from a running train during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The post-mortem report revealed that the girl died due to a head injury, possibly after she was thrown off the train. She was alive for a few minutes before succumbing to her injuries,” said S.S. Dhumal, senior police inspector, Kurla GRP adding, “The infant was not sexually assaulted or beaten.” The girl’s body was found on Sunday afternoon when a few passengers notified the police. Parts of her face were bitten off by rats, police said. The police is suspecting murder as no claimants have approached them.
