Msrdc to bring rfid system for border checks
The transport department along with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) plans to spruce up the border check post by introducing Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) based systems. Apart from maintaining every vehicle’s data that has entered and exited the state limits, the new system will help in bringing in transparency and curb corruption.
“We have already started distributing RFID stickers to vehicles like trucks, trailers and buses so that it can be stuck on the windshields,” said an official.
While distributing the stickers, vehicle data is entered into the systems. The data includes vehicle registration number, chassis number, validity of fitness, details of taxes paid, etc. The other advantage of the new system would be reduction in waiting time for goods vehicles for clearance.
The trucks with RFID stickers will pass through metal frame detectors and all the details of the vehicle will appear on the computer inside the terminal.
The authorities claim that unless they find any irregularity like carrying excess goods, the vehicles will be allowed to enter.
