MSRDC mulls theme park on Expressway
In a few years, you may be able to take a pit stop at a theme park on your way to Pune as the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation is planning to set up a theme park on the Mumbai-Pune Expres-sway.
On Friday, the MSRDC floated bids for the theme park. “We have called for expressions of interest from parties for a theme park. Let us see what all is in store,” said Subhash Nage, chief engineer of MSRDC.
As per the plans, the interested parties will submit their proposals to the MSRDC and a study will be undertaken to check which particular theme is more “marketable” and “commercially viable”. July 25 is the last day for the private parties to submit their proposals.
The park is likely to come up towards the Mumbai end of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
Ever since the Mumbai-Pune Expressway was thrown open to the motorists, the MSRDC has been planning to develop plots around the highway. Back in 2008, a feasibility study was conducted by a consultant appointed by the MSRDC for commercial development on the lands adjoining the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
The consultant had zeroed in on 23 places for development.
In future, residential townships, business management parks, hospitals, round-the-clock clinics, a warehouse, malls, auto congregates, an agriculture research centre, weekend destinations, plots for parties and resorts, gaming zones, camping sites, etc are planned.
