MU to invite retired profs to assess IDOL papers

In a bid to ensure that delays in declaring results are cut down, the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), University of Mumbai has decided to call upon retired teachers to help out. The institute, which has nearly 30,000 students but no regular faculty to assess the answer papers, has taken the decision so that examination-related work is expedited and results can be declared within the stipulated 45 days after the exams are conducted.
In the past, one of the main reasons for delay in declaration of University examination results has been the fact that the answer sheets of IDOL students have to be assessed by teachers from regular colleges. This has been a bone of contention between the college managements as well as the teachers and the University.
Dr D. Harichandan, director IDOL said that the University has agreed to address this problem on a war footing and will now invite retired teachers from any recognised university in the state to do the assessment work of the commerce faculty IDOL students.
“The University will pay the retired teachers compensation that is equal to the regular teachers’ allowance for assessing one paper, as well as similar amount of dearness allowance. However, for teachers coming from outside Mumbai, the University will also make arrangements for their lodging in the University guest house and provide them with travel arrangements in first class,” said Dr Harichandan. He said the same would be announced through advertisements in the news media all over the state.
