MU witnesses 7th paper leak
If rumours are to be believed, the University of Mumbai has suffered its seventh paper leak in 45 days, after second year engineering students appearing for the Electronic Circuit Analysis and Design (ECAD) paper claimed that they had got exam questions the previous night through emails and SMSes.
Moreover, flustered University officials said that everyday rumours of paper leaks were causing severe problems, and they were in the process of devising a foolproof method of sending out question papers to curb leaks.
According to a student from Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology, on May 25, second year students had got the questions of the next day’s ECAD paper. “Questions were being circulated through SMSes the previous night. There were instances of students paying up to `1,000 for getting an email of the scanned copy of the exam questions,” she said.
The students claimed that they had prepared accordingly and the next day they did well in the exam, as nearly 90 per cent of the questions were similar to the ones they had received the previous night.
When asked about the issue, Dr Naresh Chandra, pro-vice-chancellor, MU said, “There are so many rumours going around and the University is trying its best to put an end to this menace permanently. Even today after rumours surfaced of the question paper being leaked, we sent out two separate sets of question papers to the exam centres,” Dr Chandra said.
