Nashik markets hike onion prices, again
Onion prices rose to new levels with Umrane Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) offering the highest price of `5,871 per quintal on Monday.
The price was hiked by `760 per quintal as the highest price on Friday was sealed at `5,111 per quintal in the Umrane APMC, located in the Deola tehsil of the Nashik district.
In Lasalgaon APMC, the highest price offered on Monday was `5,576 per quintal as against `5,016 per quintal on Friday, showing a hike of `560 per quintal. Around 5,500 quintals of onions arrived in Lasalgaon on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Pimpalgaon Baswant Market priced their onions at a maximum of `5,700 per quintal on Monday as against `5,044 per quintal on Friday, thus hiking the rate by `656 per quintal.
Leading onion trader from Lasalgaon, Prakash Dayma, told The Asian Age that the onion prices would remain stable at `52 to `53 per kg in the markets. “Around 200 trucks carrying onions were scheduled for Maharashtra from southern states, but it all got spoilt. Now, the market is dependent on onions from Nashik only. But, our stocks are fast depleting. A fresh stock of onions will take time to arrive in the market,” said Mr Dayma.
