Nip back in air on Sunday: MET

After about a week of the rising mercury level, the weather again saw a nip in the air on Sunday. The minimum temperature witnessed a sudden six-degree drop as compared to the previous day as places like Santa Cruz recorded 15.6 degree Celsius.
While Colaba recorded a just about normal temperature of 19.8 degree Celsius, Santa Cruz’s 15.6 degree Celsius was about three degrees below normal. On Saturday’s 24.5 degree Celsius and 22 degree Celsius were recorded at Colaba and Santa Cruz respectively.
According to the MET department, the cold weather is a result of the winds blowing across the city. “The western disturbance has moved away eastwards, but the northerly to north-easterly winds are affecting Mumbai,” said V.K. Rajeev, director of weather forecast, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai.
The dipping mercury levels can also be experienced during the daytime. On Sunday, Colaba recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6 degree Celsius — about a degree below normal, while Santa Cruz recorded 28 degree Celsius — 2.5 degrees below normal.
The weather bureau has said that the weather is likely to persist for another day or two. “As the winds continue to be northerly to north-easterly, we expect similar weather for another couple of days. The temperatures are likely to rise after that,” said Mr Rajeev.

45-yr-old held for molesting 7-yr-old girl
VIJAY KUMAR YADAV
Mumbai, Feb. 17

The Worli police arrested a 45-year-old man on Saturday for allegedly molesting a seven-year old girl from his neighbourhood. The accused lured the girl by offering her eatables and molested her in his house.
The arrested accused has been identified as Rammanohar Ramlakhan Verma, who is a resident of Worli. Verma works in a private firm.
According to the Worli police, the victim, Rubeena (name changed to protect identity) had gone out to play outside her home
with other children on Saturday evening.
When Rubeena’s brother noticed that she was nowhere to be seen, he enquired with another girl about his sister. The girl told him that a man who resides in the vicinity had taken her along with him.
“Rubeena’s brother started looking for his sister in the area. While searching, he peeped into Verma’s house through a
window. He was shocked to see Verma touching his sister inappropriately after taking her clothes off. Rubeena’s brother then shouted at him, following which Verma fled the house. The boy took his sister home and narrated the incident to their mother,” said an officer on the condition of anonymity.
