No extension on Existing land use map deadline

With the last date for sending suggestions and objections over the Existing Land Use (ELU) maps being over on Sunday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received over 4,000 queries over the issue.
The BMC had given the citizens three months time to respond to the ELU maps. According to civic officials, the deadline will not be extended anymore.
The civic body had extended the last date for sending suggestions and objections over the ELU four times. Earlier the deadline was extended from January 11 to 24, February 11 and February 28.
The ELU map is the basis of the development plan, which is the land use map of the city. Several non-government organisations, citizen groups, who are scrutinising the ELU maps at the ward levels had demanded that the deadline be extended so that more suggestions and objections can be submitted to the civic body.
They had found several glitches in these maps and want the BMC to rectify them before going ahead with drafting the new development plan for the next 20 years from 2014.
“Every suggestion and objection that comes to us will be looked into in detail and if found to be valid, changes will be made in the ELU,” said a senior civic official.
After giving repeated extensions for the scrutiny, the BMC’s schedule to prepare the draft of the development plan is likely to go haywire. The DP draft should have been ready by October 2013; it will be delayed by at least three months now.

The Powai police on Sunday arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly murdering a seven-year-old boy who was found dead at an under-construction site in the Powai area on Friday morning.
The deceased Shamsundar Raj Bind was found murdered with strangulation marks round his neck.
Senior police inspector, Bajirao Gopalrao Bhosle, of Powai police station said, “We have arrested Shamshuddin Ansari (22), the site supervisor of the construction site for murdering the
child. Ansari had one sided feelings for Shamsundar’s mother.
When Shamsundar learnt about it, he warned Ansari to keep away from his mother and told him that he would be complaining to his father about this. This enraged Ansari and he bumped him off.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
