No power cuts during summer: CM
Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Monday declared that there would be no load-shedding in the state, even during summer, even though two power plants of the state have been completely shut due to water and gas shortage.
The chief minister also claimed that on the virtue of permanent and balanced development, Maharshtra would remain the “number one” destination for investors.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of “Progressive Maharashtra Summit”, organised by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in the city, Mr Chavan said, “Shutting of power plants is definitely a matter of concern for the government, but there will not be any load-shedding, even in the summer months.”
He stated that, due to non-availability of gas, the Dabhol power plant (1,967 MW) and for water shortage, the Parli thermal power plant (1,130 MW) have been completely shut down.
The coal from Parli will be transferred to Koradi or some other power plant to avoid further reduction in generation, he added. But he didn’t explain any alternative for Dabhol.
Mr Chavan also said that the people who are paying their bills regularly for their usage would continue to get power.
“I don’t think there will be a problem even in peak summer. But only those, who pay their electricity bills regularly will get
continuous power supply.” The chief minister was confident about getting power from other states too.
For the delay in resolving the compensation package to the affected farmers of the Navi Mumbai airport project, he said, “We are working towards better compensation for the affected farmers in order to cut down further delay”.
