No unauthorised construction in Bombay House: BMC
A day after a major fire broke out at Bombay House, the Tata Group headquarters in South Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said there was no unauthorised construction in the building.
The initial reports had suggested that due to unauthorised construction in the basement of Bombay House the fire could not be doused quickly.
Three persons died due to suffocation.
Additional municipal commissioner Mohan Adtani on Friday said, "The information gathered by us so far reveals that there was no unauthorised work in Bombay House."
Meanwhile, Mayor Shraddha Jadhav said, according to the information received from fire brigade officials, the basement of Bombay House had 50 windows of which 20 were boarded up.
Air-conditioning machines and exhaust fans were installed in some other windows, which reduced the ventilation, she said.
"The building did not have the health department's permission to run the canteen. Also, in recent years no fire inspection had been carried out in the building," Jadhav said.
