Now, MU announces Engg re-exam
The Board of Examination (BoE) of the University of Mumbai has decided to conduct a re-exam for the engineering stream, which witnessed a string of paper leaks last month. The decision was taken despite appeals by students and students’ organisations that the paper leak had benefited a very small number of students and so the majority of the students should not be made to go through the stress of re-appearing for the exams.
Speaking about the decision, a University official said that even though a small percentage of students had benefited from the paper leaks, the entire student fraternity would have to reappear for the exam. “It will serve as a lesson for the students who resort to malpractices that their actions can cause immense agony to their peers,” said the official.
He added that as the University had conducted a re-exam for the Marketing and Human Resource Management (MHRM) paper that had leaked in March during the TYBCom exams, it was imperative that a re-exam be conducted for the engineering papers too.
On Thursday, Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray had demanded that the University should not subject the engineering students to further stress for no fault of theirs by having the re-exam. However, the BoE and management council deemed it necessary to have a re-exam.
“The dates for the exams will be June 14 for Maths-II, June 16 for Physics II and June 18 for BEE Sem -I. We believe that with this, there will be sufficient gap between all three papers,” said a management council member.
The University also announced a five-pronged action plan to ensure that there is no repeat of the paper leak fiasco.
