NZ man jumps to death from hotel
A 56-year-old New Zealand national committed suicide by jumping off from the 17th floor of the Taj Land’s End Hotel in Bandra (west) late Monday night, the police said. No suicide note has been found, but the police suspects that personal problems may have led him to take the extreme step.
According to the Bandra police, the deceased, John Richard Brimley, is a still photographer by profession and was employed with a private film production company.
He was on a visit to the city with his colleagues and had arrived in Mumbai on May 9. During investigations, the police found out that Brimley was depressed due to some unknown family problems and had taken to sleeping pills.
Before committing suicide by jumping off his hotel room, Brimley had locked his room’s door. His colleagues tried knocking on his door, but when they did not get a response, they contacted the hotel staff. A bellboy opened the door with a duplicate key and found the room empty with the window ajar.
At around 11 am, a hotel employee saw his body lying on the ground near the swimming pool. His friends and colleagues told the police that Brimley was consuming sleeping pills and anti-depressants for sometime to get over his depression. Brimley was suffering from severe headache for the past week and had stopped communicating with his friends for the past three days. He remained absent from work on Monday in the city.
An official from Bandra police said, “We rushed him to Bhabha Hospital where he was declared brought dead. An autopsy has been conducted at Cooper Hospital and the New Zealand Embassy has been informed.”
