Onion prices continue to rise in state
Onion prices continued to rise in the two major onion-producing districts in Maharashtra — Nashik and Pune.
Onion of superior quality was priced at a maximum of `5,300 per quintal in the Pune Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC), followed by `5,037 per quintal in the Pimpalgaon Baswant Sub-market of the Niphad Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Nashik district on Monday. However, the minimum price remained at `1,501 per quintal in Nandgaon APMC in Nashik.
In Lasalgaon, 9,600 quintals of onions arrived and the average price per quintal was placed at `4,300, while 4,000 quintals arrived at Yeola and were priced at `4,350 per quintal. Nimphad saw the arrival of 3,023 quintals of onions and an average price of `4,200 per quintal. Similarly, 5,000 quintals of onions at Manmad were priced at `4,351, and 1,700 quintals at Nandgaon were priced at `4,380 per quintal.
In Pune, 11,543 onions were traded on Monday at an average price of `4,400 per quintal. The prices for the tuber crop began to rise in the beginning of August. On August 5, it rose by nearly `500 per quintal in the onion market in Lasalgaon, Nashik.
As many as 12,500 onions were traded at an average price of `2,950 per quintal.
