Online admissions to be foolproof
Amidst widespread apprehensions expressed by legislators about the online admission process for junior colleges, state education minister Rajendra Darda on Thursday assured in the legislative council that there would be no glitches in the process this year.
The minister promised that the admission process would be completed within 25 days of the results being declared and that students would get admissions based on merit.
Shiv Sena MLC Dr Deepak Sawant had moved a calling attention motion in the council on the hardships faced by students during online admissions every year. Dr Sawant pointed out that in 2011, 40,000 college seats had remained vacant after the online admissions were completed.
However, the minister said, “This is the age of computerisation. Because we have adopted online admission process, students will not have to stand in queues outside colleges.”
The Shiv Sena MLC had also pointed out that personal data, including cellphone numbers, submitted by students at the time of online admissions was open for everybody to access. The minister accepted that it was a problem area and assured that he would discuss the issue with Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited officials, so that the data is accessible only to the concerned student.
