Online fraud: 2 get bail
The Bombay high court on Thursday granted bail to two Indian nationals, and will hear on August 8, the bail applications of two Russian nationals, these accused were arrested in a case of online fraud where investors were promised high returns in a short period. One of the Russian national is an international award-winning photographer and videographer.
“If he is a (photographer) why did he come in touch with these people who were indulging in cheating? How can he accidentally come in contact? Both the Russians haven’t even given statements to the investigating officer. The case is at the investigation stage and they should record their statements (sic),” said Justice Abhay Thipsay.
The defense had argued that as 43-year-old Adrei Kilin was an international award-winning photographer and videographer and a Russian, and was being falsely implicated. The defense counsel said that the other national, 43-year-old Denis Rozkhov is a translator and a devotee of the Iskcon temple. Additional public prosecutor Rajeshree Gadhvi argued that both the accused still hadn’t recorded their statements for the case to move on. “They were arrested in May, but haven’t given their statements till now,” she said.
The duo was arrested under Maharashtra Protection of Investors Deposit (MPID) Act after lakhs of investors complained of a ponzi scheme being floated on a website www.mmmindia.in.
