This season’s rainfall is way below the rainfall recorded last year during the same period. According to data available, till date it has rained around 60 per cent.
Colaba and Santa Cruz have recorded 55.42 per cent and 61.17 per cent rainfall respectively this year. Last year, during the same time the two weather stations recorded 116 and 113.1 per cent rainfall respectively.
“As on September 7 this year, Colaba has received 1,285.3 mm amount of rain, while Santa Cruz recorded 1,633.3 mm,” said an official from the BMC. Precisely a year ago, that is on September 7, 2011, it had rained 2,689 mm in Colaba and 3,017.4 mm in Santa Cruz. The average rainfall in Mumbai for a normal monsoon is around 2,400 mm.
