Opp. parties bicker, hurl allegations on Day 1
On the first day of the legislative Budget Session, Opposition parties — mainly the BJP and MNS — found themselves enga-ged in making allegations against each other, instead of raising issues related to the common people.
Leader of Opposition in the legislative Assembly Eknath Khadse on Monday dared MNS chief Raj Thackeray to give substantial proof in the allegations made against him about having “settlements” with the government. MNS legislator Bala Nandgaonkar then respon-ded and said that his party chief does not make allegations without proper pro-of. He went on to threaten that the party should not be compelled to reveal all that is hidden. Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, on the other hand, without naming Raj, attacked him and said that people already have many forms of entertainment and are aware of the party that works seriously for their cause.
Skipping the Opposition parties’ meeting on Sund-ay, the MNS chief justified his missing legislators by alleging that Mr Khadse is part of settlements with the government and was not supporting his legislators if they willed to express their views on the floor of the House.
“I do not want to give importance to allegations levelled by Raj. I would have understood if he had given substantial proof while making these allegations,” Mr Khadse said.
He added that the MNS was never a part of the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance. Mr Khadse said, “As leader of Opposition, it’s me who always tries to unify all, except the ruling party, into a strong Opposition,” but questioned the strength of the MNS in the house by saying that the Sena-BJP combine has 93 MLAs, but the MNS is limited to 11 MLAs.
Reacting to this Mr Nandgaonkar said, “Raj does not makes allegations without having substantial proof.” He sought details on the issues raised by the Opposition leader. “As Opposition, we have raised issues like Hiranandani developer and Shripati tower of Nana Chowk, what happened to them? Give us the follow-up details and then the MNS chief will reply,” Mr Nandgaonkar said.
