Owaisi may cancel Aurangabad meet
The Bombay high court on Friday adjourned the hearing on the matter relating to MIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s public meetings. Mr Owaisi will now have to inadvertently cancel these meetings between January 31 and February 2 in Aurangabad till Tuesday.
The organiser Javed Qureshi’s had approached the high court after his application to conduct the public meetings was rejected by the local police.
On January 17, a former corporator, Mr Qureshi had filed an application with the special branch of the Aurangabad seeking permission to conduct public meetings with Mr Owaisi as the guest at Roze Bag.
“The Bombay high court has asked us to appear before it on Tuesday. We have filed many documents to state that the meetings could create a law and order situation. This includes the history of riots and other problems seen in Aurangabad city,” said special branch senior inspector Sopan Borse of Aurangabad city.
Mr Borse added that Mr Qureshi has 12 criminal offences against him that include rioting and he was the founder of the local group of the banned organisation Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in Aurangabad.
When contacted, Mr Owaisi said, “I did not cancel the meet. The police did not give permission for it and I was given a CrPc notice against entering Aurangabad.”
