Pak pop band Jal cancels city gig
Fans of the Pakistani pop rock band Jal in the city were left disappointed after its gig at Hard Rock café on Thursday was cancelled at the last moment.
Officials from the venue said that it was cancelled “due to unforeseen circumstances”. However, sources informed that there are approximately 21 approvals needed from authorities like the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the band to perform and the organisers hadn’t got all the clearances. A statement from Hard Rock Café said, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Jal performance at Hard Rock Café Mumbai has been cancelled. We understand that it was an eagerly awaited performance, and we deeply regret the inconvenience caused. Our patrons who purchased online tickets in advance can avail it as per the refund policy. Have faith, keep rocking and thank you for your support and understanding.”
The band, however, has a performance lined up in Delhi, which will take place on April 5.
Speaking to a national news channel, Jal’s vocalist, and lead guitarist Goher Mumtaz said, “The concert, which was to be held at the Hard Rock Cafe, had to be cancelled because of ‘permission issues’. I don’t know what exactly was the reason behind it. It is probably that we were Pakistani artistes.”
Calling the last minute development as “very sad”, Mr Mumtaz said that the band was disappointed, especially since they do not often come to India. He further added, “When we see all the love from India and Indian fans, we get excited about performing in India.
