Patil appeals against morcha
Home minister R.R. Patil once again resorted to making an emotional appeal on Monday after the MNS called for morcha demanding his removal. The MNS will be staging a morcha on Tuesday from Girgaum Chowpatty to Azad Maidan at 2 pm on Tuesday, demanding removal of Mr Patil and Mumbai police commissioner Arup Patnaik.
It is learnt that MNS chief Raj Thackeray has been personally monitoring the preparations for the morcha. Each section chief having four to five shakhas under him has been given instructions. Special meetings have been arranged for the preparation of the morcha.
Reacting to the MNS’ plans for morcha, Mr Patil said, “It is important for people to consider the festive season and the existing tension in the country. They should think whether it is appropriate to stage a morcha in such situation.”
The home minister further added that it was wrong to think that the riots took place due to failure of intelligence. “Is it possible to get detailed intelligence? Is it easy to get detailed information of who came from where and who was responsible for arson?” Mr Patil asked. He added that if someone insists on playing politics on the current situation and staging a morcha, the police will try to maintain peace and keep things under control.
